What Happens at a Weight Management Consultation—and Does Chinese Medicine Weight Management Include Herbal Medicine?
Published Updated
A weight-management consultation is a chance to replace broad intentions such as “eat better” or “lose weight” with a conversation about your own routine, health information and next questions. You can expect to discuss what has changed, how meals and activity fit around work or family life, sleep, stress and anything already affecting your health. Chinese medicine weight management does not automatically mean herbal medicine. A practitioner first considers the information you share, then explains which options may be relevant, what they involve and when another health professional should be involved.
Appointments are confirmed through WhatsApp. If you have language requirements, please mention them in your enquiry.

The short answer
At a weight management consultation, you will usually discuss your goals, eating pattern, activity, sleep, relevant health history, medicines and any previous attempts to change your weight. The discussion should help identify realistic next steps rather than impose a fixed programme. Chinese medicine weight management may include herbal medicine for some people, but it is not an automatic part of every consultation. Herbal options, if considered, should follow an individual assessment and a review of relevant medicines and health circumstances.

Your questions, answered
Frequently asked questions
What happens at a weight management consultation if I have already tried dieting?
Tell the practitioner what you tried, what helped briefly, what became difficult and what was happening in your life at the time. Previous attempts can reveal practical barriers such as late work, hunger between meals, pain, poor sleep or an approach that felt too restrictive. The discussion can then focus on a more workable next step rather than repeating the same plan.
Does Chinese medicine weight management include herbal medicine for everyone?
No. Herbal medicine may be considered after an individual assessment, but it is not automatically included for everyone. Share your medicines, supplements, allergies and relevant health information before discussing it. You can ask why it is being considered, how it would be reviewed and whether you should seek advice from another clinician or pharmacist.
Should I bring a list of medicines and supplements?
Yes. Bring or photograph labels for prescribed medicines, non-prescription products, vitamins and supplements, and mention any allergies or recent changes. This matters when a practitioner is considering any new option. It also helps the conversation account for care you are already receiving elsewhere.
Can a consultation help if I do not want a restrictive diet?
Yes. Say clearly that restriction has not worked for you or is not something you want to pursue. A useful conversation can focus on meal regularity, food choices that fit your preferences, planning around demanding times of day, activity that respects your current ability and appropriate referral when needed.
