Facial Acupuncture with Pustules; Facial Acupuncture with Acne Scars; Facial Acupuncture with Cystic Acne: What to Know First
Published Updated
A white-tipped spot, a sore lump beneath the skin and an old indented acne scar may all sit on the same cheek, but they do not call for the same decision. If you are considering facial acupuncture with pustules, facial acupuncture with cystic acne or facial acupuncture with acne scars, start by separating active inflammation from healed marks. Do not needle directly over pustules, deep painful lesions, broken skin or an area that may be infected. Bring the active acne under appropriate medical care first; only settled, intact skin can be considered later in an in-person suitability discussion.
Appointments are confirmed through WhatsApp. If you have language requirements, please mention them in your enquiry.

The short answer
Facial acupuncture should not be performed directly over pustules, cystic acne, open skin or a suspected infection. Those signs point to active inflammation or a problem that needs medical assessment, not a cosmetic procedure. Flat marks and stable acne scars are different from active acne, but they still need an in-person review of skin condition, current treatments and expectations. Seek medical care promptly for deep painful lumps, spreading heat or swelling, discharge, fever, or acne that is scarring.

Your questions, answered
Frequently asked questions
Can facial acupuncture be performed over a pustule or cyst?
No. A pustule, deep painful lesion, open spot or area of suspected infection should not be needled directly. Prioritise assessment and control of the active acne. If you have a painful deep lump, spreading swelling, discharge, fever or signs of scarring, contact a doctor or dermatologist rather than arranging a cosmetic procedure.
If acne is only on my chin, could another facial area be considered?
Possibly, but never by assuming that distance from the spot makes a procedure suitable. The other area must be intact and free from active inflammation, and a Registered Chinese Medicine Practitioner needs to assess the overall skin condition, acne distribution, infection concern and current treatments in person before deciding whether any local approach is appropriate.
Are acne marks and acne scars suitable for the same approach?
No. A flat red or dark mark after a healed lesion differs from a pitted, raised or otherwise textural scar. Both should be distinguished from ongoing acne. An in-person discussion can clarify what is present, but it should not promise removal of marks or scars. Dermatology input may be particularly helpful for persistent pigmentation or established textural scarring.
Can Chinese medicine squeeze acne or perform bloodletting on a pustule?
Do not force, squeeze or puncture active acne as part of routine care. Picking and squeezing can worsen irritation and contribute to scarring. If a lesion needs medical drainage or extraction, that is a decision for an appropriately trained medical professional in a suitable clinical setting.
Can I see a Chinese medicine practitioner while using acne medication?
Yes, you can ask about a consultation, but list every treatment you use, including prescription creams, retinoids, benzoyl peroxide, antibiotics, isotretinoin and supplements. Do not stop medication because of a TCM enquiry unless the prescribing clinician tells you to. Coordinated care keeps the discussion safer and clearer.
